On 26 July 2021, a ceremony to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the birth of Qian Lingxi and present the donation to Qian Lingxi Mechanics Award was held at the Faculty of Vehicle Engineering and Mechanics, Dalian University of Technology (FVEM, DUT). Participants include Cheng Gengdong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and his wife Shen Min, Li Gang, dean of FVEM, DUT, Liu Gang, secretary of Party Committee of FVEM, DUT, Guo Xu, vice president of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CSTAM), Wu Chengwei, vice president of Executive Committee of Qian Lingxi Mechanics Award, and faculty and student representatives of FVEM, DUT.
Cheng Gengdong and his wife Shen Min donated to the Education Development Foundation of DUT ¥1 million of prize money to support the Qian Lingxi Mechanics Award project, aiming at inheriting and carrying forward the noble spirit of dedication to science and service to the motherland of Qian Lingxi, who is a well-known Chinese dynamicist, educator, senior academician of CAS, the 2nd president of CSTAM and the 2nd president of Dalian Institute of Technology (DIT).
In 1993, Qian Lingxi Mechanics Award was established by the Department of Engineering Mechanics, DUT to commemorate the outstanding contributions of Qian Lingxi. The award is intended to recognize students and young teachers engaged in mechanical research, inspiring the younger generation to make original and innovative achievements. In 2010, Qian Lingxi Computational Mechanics Award was subsequently established to honor Chinese scholars who have made scientific breakthroughs and innovations in the field of computational mechanics.
