In November 2025, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) announced the 2026 list of newly elected fellows. A total of 63 scientists from around the world were elected, including 10 from mainland China and 2 from Taiwan, China.
Professor Huiling Duan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Boya Chair Professor at Peking University, inaugural Fellow and Vice President of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied
Mechanics, has been elected as TWAS Fellow.

TWAS was founded in 1983 by scientists from the developing nations, led by Nobel laureate Abdus Salam. They shared a belief that developing nations, by building strength in science and engineering, could build the knowledge and skill to address such challenges as hunger, disease and poverty. Today, TWAS consists of over 1,400 elected Fellows from over 100 nations, including 13 Nobel laureates.
